#4 Exquisite Corpse

Edit Sketch

Exqusite Corpse

The initial idea for my equisite corpse was to create something for my group memebers to easily be able to assemble and disassemble. I recalled early concepts of of cyborgs and androids which a mix between human and machine. There have been many representations of this idea throughout art and media throughout the past few decases. One of the most iconic is Astro Boy. Telling the story of a young boy who happens to also be a machine is very relatable in 2020. Not only that but the character was popular enough leave a very profound legacy.

Design Process

When I think of androids and cyborgs I often think of modularity and how they are composed of different parts. Often times in popular culture they are depicted in a way that shows them either missing certain peices or switching out certain parts of their body for others. I wanted to apply this same logic for my sketch. After reviewing my teams sketches I thought that it would be a good idea to use the shell from Zai's sketch and make an arm out Ziewi's. For some reason I decided to approach the drawing by using 8x8 squares. I think this is becuase I was insipres by 8-bit art and how pixels were/are used to create memorable video games. This took an extremely long time but I think I prefer it to using an assortment of shapes to try to come up with drawings of figures. That's just because I can focus on the detail of things easier when I'm not thinking about what shape would work best for different parts of the sketch.

Final Background Story

A turtle stumbled into a lab and accidentally fell into a liquid that increased it's intelligence. From here he noticed that they were building robots which he figured he could use to escape. He only had time to grab an arm of one android who was posing while making the peace sign and another cyborg's head but unfortunately had to hide before he could get the legs. Luckily for him the laboratory was by a pond which was full of ducks. From a window he reached out to the ducks with his objective and one decided to fuse with the turtle which had the benefit of adding legs which were perfect for an escape.

Reflection

I think my exquisite corpse was a success and I think that was only possible because I worked with a great team who provided great elements which made the process fun and enjoyable.
